How to prepare an electrical project brief

A useful electrical project brief tells the contractor what you want to achieve without trying to design the installation yourself.
Start with the outcome
Describe the spaces and how you intend to use them. Separate the essential work from optional additions. A short list of priorities is more useful than a vague request to upgrade everything.
Collect property information
Include the property type, city, occupancy and access restrictions. Gather any available drawings or photographs you already have; do not remove covers or inspect electrical equipment yourself.
Explain coordination and timing
Identify renovation stages, other trades and any landlord or strata requirements. Ask who will coordinate access, shutdowns and approvals rather than assuming these are included.
Ask for a written scope
Request a clear account of what is included, what is excluded, what needs a site visit and what could change the price. Keep the scope and subsequent changes in writing.
